That’s a wrap for 2023! Although our growing season is officially over, we still have a few bits and pieces blooming in the garden (hello, heirloom mums!). We’re loving these hardy fall flowers and will be adjusting our growing plans for 2024 so that we can offer more of these gorgeous flowers well into the late fall.
Back to the present. The prolonged summery temperatures delayed some of our prep work, and we’ve had to wait to plant many of our cool hardy annual seedlings – like snapdragons and foxglove – out into the garden. We’re hoping to get everything in the ground later this week!

Since we’re a no-dig farm, our bed prep is pretty minimal: we cut down plants at the base of the soil, top dress with humus-rich compost, and replant immediately. The little seedlings that we plant our now will be mulched with leaves and, when necessary, covered with a frost blanket to ride out the worst of the winter weather.
The agenda for November is a bit full, and also includes: sprouting and planting ranunculus corms, digging up our dahlias, and taking cuttings from some frost-tender plants.
Phew!
