January 2024: Planning for the Year

January 2024: Planning for the Year

Happy New Year! This is a quiet month for us, and our attention will be focused largely on making sure our spring-blooming flowers are able to ride out the winter weather.

Dorian Campbell, Memphis flower farmer, adjusts plastic greenhouse sheeting over a row of ranunculus at Wild Earth Flower Farm in East Memphis.

The majority of our spring-blooming flowers need some extra care to make it through until spring arrives. During the winter months, we have a near-daily ritual of covering our plants with frost cloth in the evening and removing it the following morning.

The frost cloth protects the young plants from the worst of the night’s chilling temperatures – however, we need to remove it during the day to make sure the plants have plenty of air circulation. It’s a labor of love, but well worth it.

If you’re as excited as we are about  flowers this spring, be sure to join our 2024 Spring Bouquet CSA flower subscription.

January is also the month when we’ll be finalizing our growing plans for summer and autumn. It may seem incredibly early to be thinking about next fall, but we find it helpful to work out our schedules for seed sowing, transplanting, and harvesting now so that we can make the most of our limited growing space.

2023 was an amazing year, and we appreciate all of your support and business. We have been so honored to help y’all celebrate the special occasions and people in your life. We look forward to celebrating more milestones with you in 2024!

Thank y’all for being here – it means to world to us!
